Mrs. George S. Patton, Jr. accompanied by Gen J. Lawton Collins, COFS and others arrives at demonstration area. Secy Army Frank Pace, Jr. arrives with Chrysler officials and enters spectator stands. Collins sits down to applause after a speech. Lt Gens Willis D. Crittenberger, CG 1st Army and Edward H. Brooks, CG 2nd Army are seated in stands. Brooks rises to take a bow. Large gathering of civilian and Army photogs work by stands; dignitaries in stands salute. New M-48 tank drives through "Chrysler Corp.." seal on building door and halts before stands. Mrs. Patton breaks the christening bottle on the tank; speaks into mikes. The M-48 climbs up a trench and maneuvers through pylons by the stands. It splases through a water hazard four feet deep and drives over a heavy concrete washboard track with ease. The M-48 knocks down a row of four telephone poles without pausing. The Patton goes through the water hazard again and pulls up beside another tank. One of the tanks fires, its shell strikes an unidentified target. Demonstration tank plows through a small building, copter hovers in background. Several tanks pull up before the stands. Mrs. Patton, Pace leave stands. Collins chats with a Chrysler official. Mrs. Patton rides in a tank; chats with civilian from turret of parked tank. Tank drives on washboard road. Good shot as it climbs a three foot concrete wall. Repeat shots as M-48 moves through water hazard; negotiates a ditch ten foot deep; fires. Tanks (about eight of them) advance on grandstands.
